DETH LOOP: THE DIRTY BAKER’S DOZEN
Deth Loop: The Dirty Baker’s Dozen is a short documentary that emerged from a remote, self-supported bikepacking route through some of the most rugged terrain in Death Valley. Defined by long distances, extreme conditions, and deep isolation, the route demands patience, preparation, and trust—both in oneself and in the group.
Originally conceived as a shared adventure among experienced riders, the 2025 Deth Loop brought together a small crew willing to slow down and fully inhabit the landscape. Over the course of the ride, the focus shifted away from mileage and completion toward connection—both with the land and with one another.
The film captures the rhythm of the journey: extended climbs, nights spent camped under wide desert skies, moments of exhaustion and humor, and the camaraderie that develops when a group moves together through remote terrain with no easy way out.
Shot by Gregg Dunham and edited by Mason Frenzel, Deth Loop: The Dirty Baker’s Dozen reflects a concept approach to documentary filmmaking rooted in presence, restraint, and lived experience. Rather than documenting the route itself, the film focuses on what unfolds along the way.
The film was featured on Bikepacking.com, alongside a written piece exploring both the route and the experience of the riders.
